Nana Yuliana, the honorary consul general of the Republic of Indonesia, hosted two fabulous designers at the Galleria City Mall on Saturday July 21, 2018. Handy Hartono batik Kerawang collection complemented Kartika Widjanta’s jewelry showcase. Handy Hartono answered a few questions for iF after the show.

Heidi: Tell me about your collection.

Hartono:  In my collections,I always use natural hand-woven fabrics,a 100% cotton. For this collection I used all batik blue color which is known as Blue Karawang with images of temples, rice fields, drums and Gaypong dancers. I designed the prints. It is all hand-painted and batiked with wax. I have a workshop with about 20 artists back home.

Heidi: How did you get into fashion design?

Hartono:  My Mom had a fashion design school,, and I took to it at a very young age. I take traditional Indonesian fabrics and prints and make them modern and international. I have shown all over the world. This is my first show in the United States. I look forward to many more.
