America’s Table

By: Randy Czarlinsky, Director, American Jewish Committee

This year, AJC Houston’s media partner KPRC reported that the one-hour broadcast of America’s Table which aired both on Wednesday, November 23 at 5:00am and on Saturday, November 26 at 8:00pm, reached over 27,000 households or over 77,000 viewers. They also reported that live steaming numbers on their social media platforms were triple their average numbers for the specific time slot. Despite competing against the Aggies and LSU, these numbers exceeded previous years. If you missed the live broadcast, or would like to share the video with others, please feel free to watch on YouTube here.

This year, we also initiated an additional portion of the America’s Table program – Teen America’s Table, which was hosted by the Astros Foundation at Minute Maid Park. Twelve area high schools sent approximately 250 students to participate in the November 9th event. Congressman Al Green and Executive Director of the Astros Foundation, Paula Harris, both spoke to the students at the event. Student leaders participated in the program – sharing their immigrant stories and readings on the journey to America. Next year, KPRC and the Astros Foundation have already committed to presenting America’s Table on KPRC and at Minute Maid Park. We hope we can continue to count on your support in what may be the only program to tell the story of Houston’s diverse communities and immigrant stories at a time of year when families and friends come together to celebrate their differences.
