Arma Jackson Houston Forever Swiss Consul

It was a thrill to be invited to the Arma Jackson Concert, proudly presented by the Consul of Switzerland in Houston, Hon. John Bernhard. Held at the Houston Forever exhibition at The MAG in Downtown Houston, it was part of the French Cultures Festival held annually in Houston.  Our invitation read, “A  beautiful evening of insights into the culture of Francophone Switzerland with a free concert by renowned Swiss musician Arma Jackson!” How could we miss it?

The crowd was a unique representation of Houston’s International Community.  Several consuls general and their staff were seen dancing together, shaking off the day’s business stress. The vibe was French while his group played to a packed crowd.

The MAG (short for Modern Art Gallery), is a permanent art gallery located Downtown in a two-story building that once housed corporate offices for Texaco. The raw and industrial building has a footprint of 18,000 square feet and has been unoccupied for the past 80 years. The updated venue aims to merge fine art with entertainment.

The Houston Forever Exhibition celebrated local artists and was a herculean effort brought to fruition with help from Art Houston Magazine and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. The exhibition features a multigenerational roster of over 30, Houston-based artists and collectives working in various mediums. In addition to the art, The MAG has three lounge areas and a cash bar where visitors can take a load off and socialize.

Arma Jackson has given life to all of his musical projects within the walls of his family home in Lausanne, Switzerland. First guided by his older brothers’ passion for rap, Arma gradually opened his ears to different genres, from Michael Jackson and Coldplay, to the chanson of Charles Aznavour, to create his own unique musical style: a melding of genres include hip-hop, rap, neo-soul, pop, and house music. His first album, Idéal, was released last year. The recipient of the 2021 Swiss Music Award for Best Artist from Francophone Switzerland, Arma Jackson is making a name for himself beyond Swiss borders.
