Chinese Lunar New Year 2023: Year of the Rabbit

Wea Lee, founder of the Southern News Group, and his wife were the hosts for a Chinese Lunar New Year festival this year. This annual festival is always an in-person event lasting a full day. This year was no exception; featuring dance performances, a fashion show, martial arts performances, an open air market with vendors, food trucks and much more. The festivities and food were planned and carefully designed with families in mind. For the younger Chinese, this is probably one of the few opportunities they have to experience true Chinese culture. The location was in the well landscaped and decorated front of the Southern News Group Building, also the International Trade Center, on Bellaire Boulevard. From the lions and fountain surrounded by international flags, to the front of the building, it was the perfect setting for the Chinese community to ring in the Year of the Rabbit.

The rabbit is the symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese Culture, thus 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope. The Rabbit of 2023 falls under the wood element, with water as the complementary element. The rabbit is the 4th animal in the Chinese Zodiac and represents grace, beauty, mercy, and good luck.

Besides families from the Chinese Community, representatives from the city and international offices and local media enjoyed the festivities.

Happy Year of the Rabbit 2023.
