Hartono: In my collections,I always use natural hand-woven fabrics,a 100% cotton. For this collection I used all batik blue color which is known as Blue Karawang with images of temples, rice fields, drums and Gaypong dancers. I designed the prints. It is all hand-painted and batiked with wax. I have a workshop with about 20 artists back home.
Heidi: How did you get into fashion design?
Hartono: My Mom had a fashion design school,, and I took to it at a very young age. I take traditional Indonesian fabrics and prints and make them modern and international. I have shown all over the world. This is my first show in the United States. I look forward to many more.
