First Angola Independence Artistic Fund-Raising Gala Celebrating 46 Years of Independence

Houston Luanda Sister City Association launched The First Angola Independence Fund-Raising Artistic Gala event on December 15, 2021. Charles Washington, executive director of the Harambee Art Gallery, curated the show of works by Angolan artist, Manuel Ventura, who was present for the celebration. Nadir Tati, Angolan fashion designer presented the latest in Angolan fashion in a fabulous runway show. The Consul General of Angola, Hon. Ana Paula do Nascimento, welcomed the guests in her opening remarks for this very special celebration of the Independence of the Republic of Angola. The Master of Ceremonies Gil Ingles provided a free voucher to the Quicama National Park in Angola for the fundraiser. Speaking that evening were the director of the Mayor’s Office of Trade and International Affairs (MOTIA), Mr. Christopher Olson; keynote speaker, Clay Neff, President of Chevron Middle East, Africa, and South America Exploration and Production Company; and Ms. Fatima Benge, president HLSCA. 

Recognition Awards were given to her Excellency, Ana Paula Do Nascimento, Consul General of Angola in Houston, Susan Young, President Sister Cities of Houston, Val Thompson, President HITDC & Publisher IF Magazine, Charles Washington, Harambee Art Gallery, and Mrs. Ellen Goldberg, Sister Cities.
