On January 30, the Federal Reserve Bank Dallas-Houston Branch hosted the Consular Corps of Houston to a luncheon where they received an economic briefing of the region by Senior Business Economic of the Houston Branch Jesse Thompson. Mr. Thompson performs research and analysis on issues affecting Houston and the Gulf Coast in economy in particular areas surrounding hydrocarbon industries. Forward looking data points to a tepid near-term outlook for Houston employment and oilfield activity in 2020. The local economy continued to expand at the end of 2019 despite weakness in energy. There were strong increases in business and professional jobs and education and health services.
