At the 4th Edition of the Diaspora Africa Conference in Houston, Texas, visionaries, entrepreneurs, and policy leaders came together to reimagine Africa’s role in shaping the global economy. Spearheaded by Eze Chukwueze Chukwu, founder of the Diaspora Africa Mobile App, the event pulsed with energy, insights, and a clear message: Africa is not just rising — it’s ready.
“These conversations are the seeds of tangible change,” Chukwu emphasized. “Now, the real work begins.”
From transformative panels on bilateral entrepreneurship, agro-trade, real estate, wellness, and technology to powerful networking across continents, the conference showcased the Diaspora’s unmatched potential to drive progress on the African continent and beyond.
A standout takeaway? Africa’s economic significance is undeniable, and the Midwest — particularly Michigan — is poised to be a key player. In 2022 alone, U.S. imports from Africa reached $37.6 billion, with top sectors including minerals, agriculture, and textiles. Experts urged leaders to leverage opportunities in African supply chains, from lithium to textiles, boosting American manufacturing and job growth.
The conference also reignited support for the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) — a U.S. policy that has generated over 300,000 jobs by enabling duty-free exports from Africa. Advocates called for renewed and expanded AGOA legislation, along with local incentives to foster trade between states like Michigan and sub-Saharan nations.
As the curtains closed, one thing was clear: the diaspora is not just participating — it’s leading the call to action? Turn conversations into strategic partnerships, investments, and sustainable growth.
“Let’s keep the momentum going,” Chukwu said. “Together, we can unlock Africa’s immense potential.”
